The guest os in VMWare may sometimes corrupts and you cannot boot from it or when opening the guest os from a “*.vmx” file. This could be however, recovered by manually editting the configuration file:
- Edit the file to be used, usually a *.vmdk file in the folder where a guest os is located. Copy and edit an existing * working vmx is a usually a good start:
- Edit the display name, the guest os and the extended ConfigFile name. The display name can be casual, but the guestOS must correspond to predefined strings, for details, view here.
- Reboot, now enjoy.
